The WIO-LaB Project Legal and Technical Review Task Force Second Regional meeting was held from 8th and 10th March 2006. The meeting was attended by legal and technical experts drawn from countries participating in the WIO-LaB Project, as well as the National Focal Points, and representatives from UNEP/GPA and the Nairobi Convention Secretariat.
The main objective of the meeting was to review the status of implementation of the legal component of the WIO-LaB Project including the work plan for year 2006, as well as to undertake detailed discussion on a number of project deliverables, notably: (1) national reports and regional synthesis report on the review of the national policy, legal and regulatory frameworks; (2) national reports and regional synthesis report on the review of the status of ratification and implementation of environmental conventions relevant to land-based sources and activities; and (3) the first Draft LBS Protocol to the Nairobi Convention prepared by the Regional Legal Expert for the project.
